Dedicated to the famous geologist Déodat de Dolomieu, who first studied the unique rock of these mountains, this trail combines the charm of discovery with exceptional views, ideal for those seeking total immersion in the nature of Ampezzo without facing demanding slopes.

The Itinerary: Faloria’s Panoramic Balcony

• High-altitude departure: The adventure begins in the heart of Cortina. Taking the Faloria Cable Car (open from June to September), you will find yourself at an altitude of 2,123 meters in just a few minutes. Hotel Ambra Tip: Before setting off, treat yourself to a coffee on the terrace of Rifugio Faloria to admire Cortina from above. Cable car schedules and fares can always be checked on the official Faloria Cristallo website.
• The panoramic trail: The route begins just to the left of the mountain hut. From here, a spectacular path unfolds, overlooking the Ampezzo valley like a natural balcony, surrounded by the Dolomite peaks that have made our Queen of the Dolomites famous.
• Arrival at Rio Gere: Walking in total relaxation, surrounded by alpine meadows, you will reach the locality of Rio Gere.

Return options: Choose your own pace

Once you arrive at Rio Gere, you can decide how to conclude your day based on your desire for exploration:

• Comfort Return (By bus or taxi): During the summer season, Rio Gere is conveniently connected to the center of Cortina by public transport. Alternatively, our reception staff will be happy to book a taxi for you for an immediate and worry-free return to the hotel.
• Return on foot (For slow walking enthusiasts): If you still feel like walking, you can return to town on foot following two wonderful variations:
  1. Via Mietres and Brite de Larieto (Recommended for foodies): Continue on trail 211 to the famous farmhouse El Brite de Larieto. From there, take trail 204 towards Rifugio Mietres (about 40 minutes) and finally descend into the town center (another 40 minutes).
  2. Via Mandres (The cable car route): Take trail 209 from Rio Gere and then 206 to Mandres (about 2 hours of walking), the intermediate station of the cable car, from where you can comfortably glide back down to the starting point.
