Here we come again, October is back.
The season when every leaf is a flower and the season when the bright colors of the summer leave space to every nuances of yellow, gold, brown and red…and yes, some green as well.
In Cortina, October is the best time to indulge in some foodie pleasures.
Have you ever tried the bombardino?
Not yet? Well, then it’s high time you head for one of the cafés and inns we are suggesting to try your first bombardino and let us know how do you like it.
Besides from yummy food and drink, we just selected a few things to do and see in the Dolomites, this October.
Follow us and let us know what you would like to do.
Drink a bombardino in one shot
Ok, maybe drink a bombardino in a single shot may be challenging but trust us: if you try it once, you’ll become an enthousiastic fan of this delicious and inebriating drink.
It’s a must in every rifugio and every rifugio has its own special receipt.
How they mix zabaione, brandy, coffee and cream can make a huge difference.
So before you declare your fav one, you really need to try a few.
Yes, it’s a hard task but someone has to do it, as they say.
Do not forget to let us know what is the best bombardino you had in Cortina.
We are very curious about it.

Apple strudel and krapfen at Santuz and at Ghedina
Authentic pieces of crunchy apples boiled with cinnamon and mixed with nuts and noisette in a light crispy pastry just out of the oven served with some vanilla ice: that’s how we like our apple strudel here in the Dolomites.
And what about krapfen?
These delicious puffed donuts filled with jam or cream and powdered with sugar miss the traditional hole but they do not miss to surprise and delight us.
Afraid krapfen and strudel may be a serious danger for your health?
We’ve got you covered on that: just have your krapfen or your slice of apple strudel at breakfast and then head off for a walk along one of our favourite track, trail 212 to Rio Gere.
Bye bye extra sugar, welcome good energetic vibes.
Where to have the best krapfen and apple strudel in Cortina?
We selected Panificio Santuz, a traditional bakery in Cortina and Ghedina in the little village of Alverà.
Any other bakeries to delight us and our guests?

When summer is over, it’s time to bring the cattle back to Cortina and the small villages in the valley and get ready for the long and dark winter months.
That’s exactly when the locals and the tourists welcome back cows, donkeys, sheep and shepherds and we all gather together to listen to the summer stories and have some comfy food.
Our list of comfy food include:
- Polenta
- Sausages
- Brazelà (a typical local cake similar to a Danish pastry and filled with nuts and raisins)
At the beginning of October (the date varies according to the year) at the Bus Station parking lot, just a few steps from our hotel.
